Black hairdorists and salons in Florida are offering free haircuts and manicures to customers of a Florida salon with a history of racial profiling and racial violence.
The Black Hair Salon in Hollywood is a three-story, brick and mortar building with a pool, a full-service salon and a bar, and the business is located in Hollywood Hills.
A statement from the owners said the Black Hair salon’s “customers have been treated with respect and dignity.”
The statement did not give an exact location or how long the service will be available.
“We are dedicated to providing a high-quality haircut and the care of our customers is paramount,” the statement read.
“We are proud to be a part of the Hollywood Hills community and we will continue to serve the community with respect, dignity and dignity.
We will continue our commitment to make our customers happy and feel welcome.”
Hollywood Hills has a history with the salon, which the city recently renamed “The Black Lion.”
The owners of the salon were charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in a case that went unsolved for nearly five years, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
The salon was located on the same block where a black teen was shot and killed by police last summer.
In January, a woman was shot in the back and killed at the same address.
The case remains unsolved.
In 2016, a black man was shot dead at the Black Lion salon in Hollywood.
A month later, a white man was killed at a Black Lion in the same neighborhood.
The Hollywood Hills Black Lion has been in business since 1996.
The salon has two locations in the neighborhood.
The owners have not yet responded to requests for comment.
