Hiring a hair stylist can save you up to $20,000, according to a new study.
The study from the Canadian Council on Training and Development, a trade group representing more than 1,000 hair and beauty training providers, says the average cost of a hair care appointment at a hair salon in the U.S. is $4,000.
That includes the cost of an initial consultation with a stylist, plus $1,500 for a stylistic consultation and $5,000 for hair color treatments.
The research was conducted by H&M Canada Inc., a U.K.-based beauty and personal care company.
The average cost per appointment for a salon in Toronto, Ontario, is $2,500.
The national average cost is $3,500, according the research.
H&S also says it pays up to 80 per cent of the cost in Canada, and that it is one of the leading providers in the country.
A spokesperson for H&Ms Canada said in an email that “there is no cost to our hair stylists, they are all licensed and insured and we provide our stylists with the best service and support to help them reach their best results.”
“This is an industry that has been growing for years and we look forward to continuing to grow our hair industry in Canada,” the spokesperson said.
Hire Hair stylists at the best rates in Canada This study is based on data collected by H &M Canada, a company that is licensed to provide hair styling services in the province of Ontario.
H & M is currently the only U.B.C.-based company to provide a stylists’ license, and is the only Canadian hair stylier to offer a stylizing license.
The Canadian Council of Hair Trainers says it is aware of the study and has not seen it.
“The industry is growing at a phenomenal rate,” said Marc Grosvenor, president and CEO of the CCTT.
“There is a need for more qualified stylists and we are confident that the information provided by the H&L is sound.”
Grosver said he believes the average annual wage for a hairstylist in the United States is $17,000 and that this is an even higher average in Canada.
Grosvain said he is hopeful that this study can help improve the cost structure for hair styliers and hair stylistic services in Canada and the U to help make it more affordable for Canadians to access the services they need.
